One blade cuts, two hold against it. But why?
In our DRÄCO sheet metal shears, the moving blade travels up and down between two fixed counter blades (jaws). In the process, a narrow strip is cut out of the sheet and curls away to the side in that characteristic metal spiral.
The key advantage: The sheet stays exactly where it belongs.
With a single-sided cutting system, the material is deformed during cutting. With the DRÄCO double-sided cutting system, the forces act from both sides, so the workpiece remains virtually undeformed and the cut distortion-free.
And as an added bonus, the shear requires hardly any pressure and moves through the material almost by itself.
And who invented it?
The idea for the double-sided cutting system actually comes from our own company history: the principle was developed by our company founder, Max Draenert.
And it was even patented. Was. At some point, we decided to let the patent expire.
Today, you might call it strategic market opening. We thrifty southern German Swabians call it saving on patent fees. Win-win! ;-)
And as a nice side effect, we finally got to see what our competitors would do with our idea. You have to stay curious, after all.
The result? The double-sided cutting principle has since found its way elsewhere in the industry too. Imitation is, after all, the sincerest form of flattery.
And that's why DRÄCO shears still cut with one moving blade and two counter blades for a clean, distortion-free cut.
